Tiger Two's Regain that Winning Feeling

The West Coast Cowan A Reserves got their stuttering season back on track in the best possible fashion with a thumping 56 point win over University at McGillivray on Saturday.
The boys came out firing from the opening bounce, led superbly by big man Muzz  who put together one of the most dominant tap rucking performances  seen at the Coast in a long, long time. Within 15 minutes it was 5 goals to zip, in a large part due to the work rate of Coops who mesmerised and terrified the Uni boys with his physicality and intensity, while Scotty Palmer was great target while doing the hard things as well at full foward. Although the Uni boys conjured a lucky major on the siren the writing was on the wall.

The second term was an arm wrestle punctuated by the unfortunate KO of Russ 'Rosco' McLagan, who had been flying off half back up till that point. Old man Rakich moved from the midfield where he had been excellent up till then, to the backline to plug the gap, and put in one of his best efforts for the year. The half forward line clicked into gear with Cliark 'Sea Turtle' Ryan finally putting his threatened A game into action with a commanding performance  while Oli 'Jolly' Duncan showed his class and surprising hardness with terrific pressure, run and ball use.

The Coasters stepped up a gear after the main break, largely due to the influence of flying 'Frano' Pervan, whose electrifying disposal and love of a goal showed through, finishing with 3 majors for the game, a couple of assists and a big fine for an overzealous fistpump. The midfield reasserted its dominance led superbly by the ever present and lionhearted Aaron Joss and reinvented ruck rover Matty Hamilton, as well as evergreen centreman Matthew 'Judd' Crofts, whose early disposal demons dissipated with a fine overall performance wreaking havoc through the corridor.

The boys knew at 3/4 time that the game was theirs to win or lose, and they faced up to their mental demons of having lost three in a row in a large part due to substandard final terms. The backline continued to be dominant, with prodigal son Ryan Henderson impassable and using it beautifully, while Bluey 'Lazarus' McKenna showed just why he's come back from the dead, leaving Uni scoreless for the quarter.

Multi-talented assitant coach and runner Lee 'The Bard' Johnon summed it up as articulately as ever-"All in all, it was a solid 4 quarter performance and much more along the lines of what we expect from the Tigers. They're good, these kids, and I reckon we can go a long way. But, let's not get ahead of ourselves-it's only one win. I tell you what though, next week will be a cracker!"
