Tour de Fridge 2008
J Mac was superb yet again playing the whole game in the ruck. Old JD was at his reliable best, dominating his man and providing plenty of run out of the backline. Broomy was again superb across half back and Crimmo was again in the thick of things playing mainly on the wing. Other worthy mentions include Glassy, Jez Malaxos and Molly; all running through the middle.
Not only was Molly great in the guts but he was also superb in the mini-brawl which erupted. If landing a superb blow to an opponent’s head wasn’t enough, he then managed to turn him blue with his famous sleeper hold. In true Molly fashion he remarked, ‘I heard a faint squeal so I went a little tighter!’ Fluffy also deserves a mention for copping a stretcher fine. He was stretchered off after yelping in mid air as a result of a season ending knee injury.
The following weekend saw a well earned break for the 4s with the general bye. So accordingly, Tour de Fridge was organized. After some shocking weather on the Saturday, the Sunday provided a perfect day for cycling. The inaugural Tour involved 21 combatants who all managed to show their true colours; disgracing themselves but in the process having a ripper of a time. The competitors consisted mainly of 4ths players and their mates but also included one 3s player and one league superstar.
The day began with a well performed team sub & roll at City Beach Oval and ended at the famed 'Clubba’. Venues along the way included the Cave, and Glassy, Katas and Greg and Jimmy’s houses. Other events included funnels, feral shots, a sprint race, boat races and an attempted goon-of-fortune.
Top 3 Highlights:
3 Fivestar chasing three 14 yr old girls while attempting to pull his pants down
2 Ox’s nude show on the top of Kata’s roof
1 J Mac’s stack next to a car waiting at the traffic lights on West Coast Highway
Well done to all involved for only just avoiding arrest and surviving the first of many Tour’s to come. Many thanks must go to the lads who sacrificed their houses for the Tour and the support crew who provided drive-by pick ups and bike repairs, as well as filming much treasured footage of the event including Facebook photos and videos.
