For the 5th time this year the Colts came away with a victory, enjoying a solid 29 point win over Stirling. The colts dominated the game apart from a poor 2nd quarter through the mid field and up forward while the defenders were once again rock solid.
With 7 fit men on the bench for the first time in 2 months it was evident the West Coast side had the legs which proved to be the difference in a one sided second half. The only negative however was the teams goal kicking which read 7.25. An inaccurate and pretty dismal effort in front of goals.
The side got off to a great start kicking a goal, provided by Eric Bronson, with great help from pocket rocket Pete Saraceni in the first 20 seconds of play. They kicked 4.5 to 0.0 with the aid of big breeze. Stirling however fought back in the second quarter to trail by 2 points. The defence was in a bit of a muddle as the pressure Stirling applied was great and constant. The wind was proving to be the dominant factor so far.
At half time the boys responded to the challenge of stepping up and taking this game up to their level and play it on their terms. They completely outplayed their opponents in the 2nd half and cruised to victory with a terrific last quarter into the breeze.
Tim Garvey, Dylan DeNardi, Sam Marson and Cam McKay were terrific throughout the midfield while Haydn Burke continued his brilliant season on a wing with a best on ground performance. Ross Martin, Riley Coffey and Stef Del Pizzo were busy down forward while Andriu Dodson and Henry Cunningham continue to be outstanding down back. They lead from the front with co captain Kurt Winter and are very reliable when the pressure is on.
With Trinity Aquinas next week in a very winnable game, the boys are hoping to shake the competition up a bit before finals time and if we win all 3, there is still a slim shot of making the 5.
